Pfizer Starts Campaign Against Illegal Generic and Fake Viagra Merchants and Viagra-Related Spam Senders.

Unlawful and unlicensed internet “pharmacies” mislead purchasers, intrude on customers’ privacy and pose financial and public health risks.

These days Pfizer, the Viagra (sildenafil citrate) manufacturer, has announced that the company starts to take lawful action against several unlawful internet “pharmacies” and work with law enforcement agencies to stop sales of fake Viagra and illegitimate “generic” ED medicine versions of Pfizer. Additionally, Pfizer has started a new advertising campaign of public awareness and internet resource in order to help to educate customers about the way to avoid unlawful websites, buy authentic Viagra internet safely, and help to reduce Viagra spam.

The company wants everybody to know that Pfizer doesn’t send or stand by the spam distribution that comes from Internet sites which use illegally the name of Viagra to promote and sell unapproved erectile dysfunction products which may have ingredients that don’t provide any help and may cause health problems.

Kindler added that the company is suing dozen of the websites, and it is filing a number of legal proceedings in order to seize the names of illegitimate sites that sell counterfeit Viagra. Pfizer is working also with many governmental organizations such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Customs and Border Protection, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Department of Justice to prosecute fraudsters and to recognize and seize illegitimate products.

It is usually very hard for customers to make a distinction between illegitimate and legitimate online ‘pharmacies’”. Chief of the FBI’s Financial Crimes Section, Brian Lamkin said, “These sites are designed cleverly to deceive consumers and trade drugs which aren’t approved by the US FDA.”

These illegitimate sites promote frequently “Viagra” however send the customers counterfeit medicine. Some websites offer “generic Viagra” and/or “generic sildenafil “, though it isn’t possible lawfully as there isn’t any generic Viagra version approved by FDA. These sites’ tactic is to mislead consumers purchasing habitually legal FDA-approved other drugs generic versions. Pfizer gets letters from buyers who naively acquire counterfeit Viagra from these sites, and get medicine that does not work or even does harm them.

In accordance with the latest national survey where 676 men with an age from 35 took place, 20% of men who buy ED drugs purchase them in the Internet, and 2/3 of them do not check if the site from which they are buying is legal. Illegitimate generic versions of Viagra sales are driven mostly via unsolicited emails (or spam) which promotes such products purchase. The results of this survey showed that over a quarter of men thought mistakenly that Pfizer, the manufacturer of authentic Viagra (sildenafil citrate), sends out the unnecessary and frequently irritating emails. To fight such misperception and assist consumers to reduce the spam, Pfizer has started an internet page which gives tips that help to avoid this increasing problem.
