The team of scientists, Robert F. Furchgott, Louis J. Ignarro and Ferid Murad, made breakthrough discoveries regarding the effects of nitric oxide (”nitric oxide as a signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system”) during the mid 1990’s. Viagra development was based largely on this research. And, in 1998 the scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology of Medicine! It works by stimulating the release of nitric oxide in the penis.
